TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government is actively preparing relocation sites for residents severely affected by the recent Sumatra disaster, utilizing state-owned land for the resettlement effort.

Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi confirmed that the government would use state land for the new sites. "We have inventoried state lands and lands currently managed by certain parties for the relocation from the 52 affected regencies/cities. They will be allocated as relocation sites," he said in Langkat, North Sumatra, on Saturday, December 13, 2025, as quoted from the President's Secretariat YouTube channel.

Prasetyo noted that relocation is being offered to residents whose homes are deemed uninhabitable. In parallel, the government is assessing the total damage across the affected regions.

"Rehabilitation and reconstruction are being considered, including calculating the number of affected houses, categorized by severe, moderate, or light damage," he explained.

This approval followed a report presented by the Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), Suharyanto, during a coordination meeting with several ministers and agencies in Aceh on Sunday, December 7, 2025.

Suharyanto initially reported that 37,546 houses were damaged across the severe, moderate, and light categories due to the disaster, and requested the Rp60 million per house budget for renovation.

Prabowo agreed to the proposal but requested a further review of the figure to account for market changes. "Okay, maybe we need to calculate the price increases, inflation, and so on," he said, ensuring the budget adequately supports the reconstruction effort.
