Hasan Nasbi Resigns as Head of Indonesia's Presidential Communication Office

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Hasan Nasbi has resigned from his role as Head of the Presidential Communication Office, with his resignation letter delivered to President Prabowo Subianto through Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya and State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi.

"Today, on April 21, 2025, it seems that the time has come, I have signed my resignation letter and sent it to the President through two of my good friends. The State Secretary and the Cabinet Secretary," said Hasan Nasbi in a video shared by Total Politik on Tuesday, April 29, 2025. Presidential Communication Office member Ujang Komarudin authorized Tempo to quote the video.

Hasan explained that his resignation stemmed from his inability to manage certain situations, a sentiment he had previously shared in podcast appearances.

"I have previously conveyed in several podcast appearances that if there is something I can no longer handle, or if there is a problem beyond my capability, there is no need for commotion, we must be humble, and then decide to step aside," he said.

In mid-March, Tempo faced a series of threats, including a package containing a headless pig, a box with six decapitated mice, and digital attacks targeting journalist Francisca Christy Rosana, also known as Cica, who hosts the Bocor Alus podcast.

Rather than condemning these threats, Hasan made a controversial remark, suggesting the pig's head be cooked. "Just cook it," he said at the Presidential Palace Complex, Central Jakarta, on March 21, 2025.

This remark was based on Cica's response on social media, which Hasan interpreted as a joke. He argued that since the victim didn’t feel threatened, the incident shouldn’t be exaggerated.

"I saw Cica's social media. She asked for pork to be sent to her. It means she is not threatened. She can joke around. Send her pork," Hasan said.

Hasan also questioned the severity of the threat, asking whether the pig’s head was a real danger or just a joke. "Is that really what it seems? Or just a joke? Because they responded with jokes," he added.

President Prabowo Subianto later acknowledged the government's communication failures in conveying policies to the public during an economic forum at Menara Mandiri, Jakarta, on April 8, 2025.

The President also admitted that Hasan's remarks about the pig’s head threat were inappropriate.

"That, I believe, was a careless statement. It was wrong, I think he regrets it," Prabowo said in an interview in Hambalang, Bogor Regency, West Java, on April 6, 2025.
