
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has forecast continued heavy rainfall in parts of West Java during the first week of June, warning that several regions could experience thunderstorms, strong winds, flooding, and landslides.
According to BMKG, several atmospheric factors are expected to support increased moisture supply and the formation of convective rain clouds across parts of the province between June 1 and 7, 2026. These include the influence of the Kelvin atmospheric wave and relatively warm sea surface temperatures in several Indonesian waters.
“Sea surface temperatures in some Indonesian waters remain relatively warm,” said Alita Nuraeni, a climatologist at BMKG’s West Java Climatology Station, in a statement on Sunday, May 31.
On Monday, June 1, weather conditions across West Java are expected to be generally sunny to partly cloudy from 07:00 AM. to 01:00 PM Localized light to moderate rain may occur around midday in parts of Bogor and Sukabumi regencies and cities, as well as Cianjur Regency.
From 01:00 PM to 07:00 PM, cloud cover is expected to increase, with light to moderate rain likely in parts of Depok, Bekasi, Karawang, Bandung, Cimahi, Garut, Subang, Sumedang, Majalengka, and Kuningan. Moderate to heavy rainfall is forecast for some areas of Bogor, Sukabumi, and Cianjur.
During the evening, light to moderate rain may continue in parts of Bogor Regency, Depok, Sukabumi, and Bekasi. Temperatures are expected to range between 18 and 34 degrees Celsius, with humidity levels of 50–97 percent. Winds are forecast to blow from the northeast to southeast at speeds of 5–40 kilometers per hour.
BMKG has also issued an early warning for localized thunderstorms from midday to the afternoon in parts of Bogor Regency and City, Depok, Bekasi Regency and City, Cianjur, Sukabumi, Purwakarta, and West Bandung Regency.
On Tuesday, moderate to heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds is expected in a wider area, including Bekasi, Bogor, Depok, Purwakarta, Subang, Cianjur, Sukabumi, the Greater Bandung area, Sumedang, Garut, Tasikmalaya, Ciamis, and Pangandaran.
For Wednesday, BMKG forecasts moderate to heavy rainfall in Bogor, Purwakarta, Subang, Cianjur, Sukabumi, the Greater Bandung area, Sumedang, and Garut. Similar conditions are expected to persist on Thursday, particularly in parts of Bogor, Sukabumi, Bandung Regency, and Garut.
The agency urged residents to remain vigilant as weather conditions can change rapidly and may trigger extreme rainfall, strong winds, flooding, landslides, and falling trees.
