TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police (Polri) and its units will deploy 6,072 personnel to secure the series of celebrations for Indonesia's 80th Independence Day, which will take place from August 15 to 17, 2025. "Nearly 7,000 personnel are prepared, including reserves," said the Chief of the Traffic Corps at Polri, Inspector General Agus Suryo Nugroho, to reporters at the Jakarta Metro Police Station on Thursday, August 14, 2025.
According to Agus, thousands of personnel will be stationed along the routes used by guests, VVIP guests, and the Pesta Rakyat, or a community festival, at the Jakarta Presidential Palace. Personnel will also secure the Thamrin and Sudirman areas.
The police will deploy around 2,800 security personnel near the parliamentary complex. They will remain on duty until the evening.
The police's traffic corps estimated that several areas in Jakarta will be crowded as people flood the streets, which will lead to increased traffic. Hence, securing traffic routes and parking areas, including conducting traffic diversion, is necessary. "These have been prepared well," said Agus.
Security gears up for the series of Indonesia Independence Day celebrations from start to finish. "Even preparations for foreign state guests have been completed," he said.
The ceremony rehearsal for the Indonesian Independence Day commemoration at the Merdeka Palace will continue until today, August 14, 2025. Deputy Minister of State Secretary Juri Ardiantoro stated that President Prabowo Subianto wishes for a grand ceremony this year, as well as involving extensive public participation.
With this in mind, he said, the Presidential Palace plans to invite around 8,000 citizens to attend the ceremony. The Independence Day celebrations will also be enlivened with various supporting events, including a carnival and community festival.
