TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Consulate General (KJRI) in Davao City is strengthening Indonesia's economic diplomacy at the 8th Davao Investment Conference (DICON) and the 27th Davao Agri-Trade Expo (DATE) held on September 18, 2025. The event was initiated by the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Incorporated (DCCCII). The KJRI in Davao also represented the Indonesian Ambassador to Manila at the event.
The Support from the Philippine Government
According to a press release received by Tempo on Monday, September 22, 2025, the meeting was attended by foreign and local delegations ranging from investors and business partners to private-sector stakeholders. The event was led by DICON Chairperson Jennifer Ellen Dumlao, DCCCII President and DATE Chairperson Roland T. Suico, as well as DCCCII Board Chair Maria Lourdes Monteverde.
The event was officially opened by the Vice President of the Philippines, Sara Z. Duterte. In her address, she emphasized the importance of a credible and accountable government to create a positive business climate. The Chairperson of the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA), Leo Tereso Magno, expressed MinDA's support for the initiative to make Mindanao a center for regional trade and investment. Acting Mayor Sebastian Z. Duterte also reaffirmed the city government's commitment to a conducive business environment.
Indonesia's Role
Indonesian Consul General Agus Trenggono had the first opportunity among the diplomatic corps to deliver a speech. He presented the results of Indonesia's economic diplomacy with partners in Mindanao, such as the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN) Davao, MinDA, and other stakeholders. Several initiatives have been produced by Indonesia and the Southern Philippines, including the revitalization of the sea route between General Santos, Bitung, and Davao, as well as business matching in the healthcare sector.
Indonesia is also prepared to support the growth of the halal industry by sharing its best practices. Agus added that Indonesia consistently holds the second position as the destination country for the Philippines' imports, reflecting the growth of bilateral trade relations. He also invited participants to attend the Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) 2025 in Jakarta, next October.
Discussion Forum and Cooperation
Functional Economic Officer of KJRI Davao, Novita S.D. Supit became a panelist in the Plenary Session 2: Seizing Global Opportunities. She presented various results of Indonesia's economic diplomacy, including the re-operation of the BIMP-EAGA Manado-Davao air route, the Gensan-Bitung sea route, the signing of the MOU HIPLEKI Indonesia with Instatech Inc Davao, and the potential for future cooperation in agribusiness.
In addition to the economy, KJRI Davao also presented traditional Indonesian dance performances by the Indonesian School Davao. Two dances, Tanjung Baru from West Java and Lenggang Nyai from Jakarta, received enthusiastic appreciation from the guests.
