TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi are scheduled to visit Prambanan Temple in the Special Region of Yogyakarta on Wednesday to sign a conservation agreement.
State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, in a statement to reporters on Wednesday, stated that the visit to Prambanan Temple is part of Prime Minister Modi's state visit to Indonesia.
"Today, Prime Minister Modi and President Prabowo will depart for Yogyakarta to visit Prambanan Temple, one of the largest Hindu temple sites and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The visit will include the signing of a conservation agreement," said the State Secretary.
Prasetyo stated that in addition to signing the conservation agreement, PM Modi is also scheduled to perform prayers at the Prambanan Temple complex.
Before departing for Yogyakarta, PM Modi completed a series of state engagements in Jakarta on Tuesday, July 7.
He was received by President Prabowo in a state welcoming ceremony at the State Palace, followed by a bilateral meeting and lunch.
In the afternoon, PM Modi visited the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR/MPR) parliamentary complex in Senayan and was received by the leadership of the DPR, MPR, DPD, and other legislative members.
Later that evening, Modi and President Prabowo attended a meeting with the Indian community in Jakarta.
Previously, PM Modi stated that Prambanan Temple is a symbol of the cultural ties between Indonesia and India, with both countries agreeing to collaborate on the restoration of the temple complex.
"Tomorrow, I will inaugurate, together with President Prabowo, the conservation of Prambanan Temple in Yogyakarta. This temple is over a thousand years old and is a symbol of our shared culture, the cultural ties between Indonesia and India," said Indian PM Narendra Modi in a joint statement with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, Tuesday.
The restoration and conservation efforts are planned to be carried out by the Indonesian government and the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
The agreement on restoration and conservation efforts has been discussed since President Prabowo's visit to India in 2025.
