Indonesia Set to Sign FTA with Eurasian Economic Union

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Trade Minister Budi Santoso confirmed that the Indonesia-Eurasia Economic Union Free Trade Agreement (I-EAEU FTA) is scheduled to be signed in the near future.

Budi stated that both Indonesia and the EAEU are currently coordinating to finalize the specific timing of the signing. The Ministry of Trade is in intensive communication with the EAEU Secretariat to confirm the target date and venue, aiming for the signing to take place as early as December 20–21, 2025, during the EAEU Summit in St. Petersburg, Russia.

"The Indonesian government is fully committed to finalizing the Indonesia-EAEU FTA because this agreement is strategic for expanding market access and strengthening Indonesia's economic cooperation with the Eurasian region," Budi said on Thursday, December 11, 2025, as reported by Antara.

He conveyed that all member states of the Eurasian Economic Union, namely Kazakhstan, Russia, Armenia, Belarus, and Kyrgyzstan, are actively working to complete their respective internal procedures. The agreement is expected to be signed at the level of Trade Ministers, witnessed by the attending Heads of State at the upcoming EAEU Summit.

The Trade Minister expressed appreciation for all parties who have actively and constructively participated in finalizing the agreement. "We take note of and appreciate several EAEU leaders, including Kazakhstan's President, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, who has confirmed his attendance at the EAEU Summit," Budi added.

In 2024, Indonesia's total trade with the Eurasian Economic Union amounted to US$4.1 billion. Indonesia's Exports to the EAEU reached US$1.5 billion, marking a significant 36 percent increase from the previous year.

Indonesia's Imports from the EAEU totaled US$2.4 billion, a 4 percent decrease from the previous year.
