TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Minister for Women's Empowerment and Child Protection, Arifah Fauzi, stated that the specific needs of women and children affected by the earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) have not been fully met. The government will send special assistance to these vulnerable groups using a Hercules aircraft on Monday, August 24, 2026.
Arifah said the aid would be delivered along with several development partners. The assistance will be flown directly to NTT to fulfill the needs of women and children in the affected areas.
"God willing, we will depart for NTT tomorrow. We have prepared one Hercules aircraft," Arifah said during the inauguration of Kampung Dolanan in Sidowayah Village, Polanharjo District, Klaten Regency, Central Java, on Saturday, August 22, 2026.
According to Arifah, the aid being brought is specific to the needs of women and children. The government is also strengthening psychological assistance for the children affected by the earthquake. Arifah stated that local officials have carried out trauma healing involving the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection, the Ministry of Social Affairs, and the National Population and Family Planning Board (BKKBN).
She added that some children are starting to feel bored being in the tents. Therefore, assistance needs to be provided collectively and not solely relying on one ministry. "It appears that the children are starting to get bored in the trauma tents," she said.
Arifah mentioned that the impact of the earthquake varies in each regency in NTT. According to the reports she received, East Manggarai Regency is one of the areas experiencing the most severe impact.
She also mentioned that some disaster locations are difficult to access by land routes. As a result, aid is being dropped from aircraft. "So, some aid is being dropped from the air as in Aceh, West Sumatra, and North Sumatra," she explained.
