Indonesia Wins Four Medals at World Climbing Series Krakow

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta The Indonesian climbing team brought home four medals: one gold, one silver, and two bronze medals from the 2026 World Climbing Series Krakow, which featured five speed disciplines in Poland from July 3-5.

Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi was the top performer on the Indonesian team, winning three medals: one gold, one silver, and one bronze.

Desak won the gold medal after setting the fastest time in the women's individual event with a time of 6.54 seconds. The Balinese athlete beat host Natalia Kalucka, who won silver with a time of 6.62 seconds. Emma Hunt of the United States finished third with a time of 11.37 seconds.

Desak also won a silver medal in the mixed relay, partnering with Antasyafi Robby Al Hilmi. Robby/Desak, competing as Indonesia 2, recorded a time of 11.30 seconds in the final, but were defeated by the American pair Samuel Watson/Emma Hunt, who clocked 10.89 seconds, setting a world record.

Before advancing to the final, Robby/Desak also improved the Asian record with a time of 11.19 seconds in the semifinals.

Desak also won a bronze medal in the women's relay, partnering Rajiah Sallsabillah. Desak and Rajiah defeated the Spanish pair Leslie Adriana Romero Perez and Carla Martinez Vidal with a time of 13.14 seconds to 13.52 seconds in the bronze medal match.

The gold medal was won by the Chinese pair Zhou Yafei and Deng Lijuan, who recorded a time of 12.89 seconds, breaking the world record. They defeated the Polish pair Aleksandra Kalucka and Natalia Kalucka, who won silver with a time of 14.00 seconds.

The other bronze medal for the Indonesian team was won by Raharjati Nursamsa in the men's individual relay with a time of 4.79 seconds, behind gold medalists Samuel Watson from the United States (4.60 seconds) and Zhao Yicheng from China (4.69 seconds).

The men's relay was the only event at the 2026 World Climbing Series Krakow that failed to yield a medal for the Indonesian contingent. Raharjati and Robby's best performance came in the bronze medal match, but they could only manage a time of 13.55 seconds, ceding the third-place finish to Ukrainian pair Hryhorii Ilchyshyn and Yaroslav Tkach (10.73 seconds).

This result was somewhat anticlimactic for Raharjati and Robby, who had finished second in the qualifying phase with a time of 10.23 seconds. The gold medal in the men's relay went to China's Long Jianguo and Chu Shouhong (11.07 seconds) after defeating the United States' Samuel Watson and Zach Hammer (11.72 seconds) in the final.

The rest of the Indonesian contingent failed to achieve their best results in Krakow. Kadek Adi Asih and Rajiah, who reached the finals with times of 6.512 seconds and 6.592 seconds, respectively, were eliminated in the quarterfinals.

Aditya Tri Syahria, Robby, and Veddriq Leonardo posted qualifying times of 4.873 seconds, 5.160 seconds, and 5.223 seconds to advance to the final round of the men's individual event. However, Aditya was eliminated in the semifinals, while Robby and Veddriq both finished in the round of 16.

Raharjati/Rajiah, competing as Indonesia 1 in the mixed relay, reached the bronze medal match, but could only manage a time of 11.35 seconds, ceding the third place to China's Zhou Yafei/Zhao Yicheng (11.17 seconds).

Kadek Adi Asih and Bertdighna Devi Surya Kusuma competed in the women's relay, but finished 20th after failing to record a time due to a fall during climbing.

With this result, Indonesia finished third in the medal tally. China dominated with two gold medals, one silver medal, and one bronze medal. The United States also achieved the same result, coming in second.

Meanwhile, Poland finished fourth with two silver medals, and Ukraine finished fifth with one bronze medal.
