TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Woodball Team kicked off its campaign at the 2026 World Cup Woodball Championship in Perlis, Malaysia, by winning two gold medals and one silver medal, potentially adding to its medal haul from several events that have yet to complete the competition.
The Chair of the Indonesian Woodball Association (IWbA), Aang Sunadji, commended the athletes for their outstanding performance at the world level.
"The success of winning two gold medals and achieving an All-Indonesian Final demonstrates that Indonesian woodball development is on the right track," Aang said in an official statement on Monday (July 27).
Indonesia's first gold medal came from the Fairway Men's Team, consisting of Eka Candra Aprilyanto, Moh Habibullah, Fachri Husaini, I Gede Prabawa Mapet Darma Nugraha, Erif Nurachmad Satrio Mulya, and Ahmad Yopi Solpianda.
Indonesia's dominance was also evident in the Fairway Women's Doubles event. Two Indonesian pairs secured an all-Indonesian final after Nur'Izza/Ardin met Bibit Setyaningati/Ika Yulianingsih in the final.
In the all-Indonesian match, Bibit Setyaningati/Ika Yulianingsih emerged victorious, winning the gold medal, while Nur'Izza/Ardin had to settle for silver.
Indonesia's chances of winning more medals are wide open. In the stroke event, Indonesian representatives in the men's and women's single stroke categories advanced to the final and will compete for the championship.
The men's doubles, women's doubles, and mixed double stroke events will also continue over the next few days.
The IWbA is optimistic that the athletes will maintain their top performance to win more medals and solidify Indonesia's position as a major world woodball force.
"The fight isn't over yet. There are still several events to be played, and the opportunity to win gold is still very much alive. We hope all athletes remain focused, maintain their condition, and perform optimally until the end of the championship," said Aang.
