Indonesian Workers Demand Minimum Wage Increase in Nationwide Protest

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Hundreds of thousands of workers planned to stage simultaneous demonstrations across 38 provinces on Thursday, August 28, 2025. Among their key demands is a minimum wage increase for 2026, ranging from 8.5% to 10.5%, as well as a sectoral minimum wage increase of 0.5% to 5%.

"A decent wage allows workers to live with dignity, be free from poverty, and participate fully in social life," said the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI) in a post on its Instagram account, @ksp_citu, Tuesday, August 12, 2025.

So, what would the new minimum wage be if it increases by the demanded 8.5% to 10.5% in 2026?

Based on the workers' demands, here is the estimated range for the 2026 provincial minimum wage (UMP) if it increases by 8.5% to 10.5% from the 2025 UMP:
