TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Pratikno stated that the weather in Indonesia during the year-end holiday period is dynamic and difficult to predict. He urged the public to remain vigilant regarding upcoming forecasts. "Especially because some rivers are experiencing siltation due to landslides," he said during a virtual press conference on Thursday, December 25, 2025.

He encouraged all Indonesians traveling during the Christmas and New Year (Nataru) holidays to check early weather and disaster warnings. Pratikno noted that agencies like BMKG and BNPB will provide updates on potential risks. "Let's prioritize safety together," he added.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued a similar warning, noting high rainfall potential across the country. The active Asian Monsoon is the main cause of the increased moisture.

BMKG Public Meteorology Director Andri Ramdhani stated that heavy to very heavy rain is likely in parts of Riau, Bengkulu, Java, and Kalimantan. Other at-risk regions include West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), Sulawesi, and South Papua.

Climatologically, the most vulnerable areas include southern Sumatra, Java, Bali, the Lesser Sunda Islands, and southern Papua. "This increase in rainfall is estimated to occur from late December to early January 2026," Andri said in an official statement on Wednesday, December 24, 2025.

BMKG advises the public to stay calm but alert during the holiday period. Residents should watch for heavy rain and strong winds that could trigger floods or landslides, particularly in coastal or hilly areas.

Travelers should also exercise caution when planning land, sea, or air trips. For those attending outdoor New Year's Eve events, BMKG recommends monitoring real-time updates through the InfoBMKG application to ensure safety.
