TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Iran's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, Ali Bahreini, said on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, that the Strait of Hormuz is now fully open to commercial vessels.
Bahreini said that in recent days a large volume of oil has been transported through the Strait of Hormuz and that the strategic waterway is operating normally.
"The strait is fully open to ships, including commercial vessels," he told reporters in Geneva, as quoted from Antara.
Bahreini's remarks came after Iran and the United States reached an agreement that includes the restoration of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
Last week, Iran and the United States electronically signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Islamabad to end the military conflict that began on February 28, after the US and Israel launched a series of attacks on Tehran.
The document set a deadline for the US to lift its naval blockade of Iranian ports and for Iran to restore shipping traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.
Previously, Anadolu reported that commercial shipping traffic in the strait has risen to its highest level since early June after the agreement came into effect.
Technical negotiations between Iran and the US, mediated by Pakistan and Qatar, were held in Switzerland on June 21 to discuss the implementation of the Islamabad MoU.
