TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) reportedly fired at least two missiles at commercial vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz on Monday night, according to a media outlet.
As quoted by ANTARA, the Axios news site, citing two U.S. officials, said that America would likely retaliate with attacks on Iranian targets following the attack.
The report comes after the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said a tanker was hit off the coast of Oman, sparking a fire on board.
“A tanker has reported being hit by an unknown projectile on the port side, causing a fire, whilst travelling southbound,” the UKMTO said in a warning notice.
The UKMTO said authorities were investigating the incident and advised vessels operating in the area to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity.
No casualties or environmental damage were reported, according to the UKMTO.
Meanwhile, Iranian media outlets reported that a Qatari oil tanker “intended to pass through the Omani route in the Strait of Hormuz with U.S. Navy support but was targeted after ignoring repeated warnings.”
