TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Grand Imam of Istiqlal Mosque and also the Minister of Religious Affairs, Nasaruddin Umar, stated that Istiqlal Mosque has prepared special accommodation facilities for the president and vice president during the Ramadan activities at the mosque starting this year.
According to Nasaruddin, the provision of this accommodation is intended to support the smooth running of worship activities and state events that are often centered at Istiqlal, especially during important moments such as tarawih prayers, the revelation of the Quran, and the Takbiran of Eid al-Fitr.
He explained that the facility is located within the mosque complex and is designed to meet the basic needs of the head of state and the vice head of state when they have to participate in activities that last until late at night or early in the morning.
"If there are activities until late at night or approaching the pre-dawn meal, a representative resting place is certainly needed," said Nasaruddin at Istiqlal Mosque on Wednesday, February 18, 2026.
He also emphasized that the existence of this accommodation also considers the factors of security and the effectiveness of the mobility of the president and vice president, considering that Istiqlal often becomes the center for national and international religious activities during Ramadan.
However, Nasaruddin asserted that this facility is not a form of luxury, but rather part of organizing the function of Istiqlal as the national mosque. As the national mosque, Istiqlal is often the site of official events involving state leaders and important guests.
With the accommodation in the mosque area, it is hoped that the president and vice president can more freely participate in the series of worship and Ramadan activities without being hindered by time and distance.
