TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has implemented a special transportation fare of only Rp1 as a gift for the capital's residents commemorating Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day on August 17, 2026.
"All transportation on August 17, managed by the Jakarta Government, costs only Rp. 1," said Pramono at the Hotel Indonesia (HI) Roundabout in Central Jakarta on Sunday, as quoted by ANTARA.
According to him, this policy applies to all transportation owned by the Jakarta Provincial Government. This way, the public can use government-managed public transportation services at affordable rates during the Independence Day celebrations.
The Rp1 fare is part of an effort to bring excitement to the commemoration of the Indonesian Independence Day while also making it easier for people to travel using public transportation.
For Jakarta residents, this policy also provides an opportunity to utilize public transportation for various activities on Independence Day. "I decided to give a gift to all transportation managed by the Jakarta Government on August 17," said Pramono.
Previously, Pramono Anung hoped that the capital's residents could live comfortably, easily and happily in the celebration of Jakarta's 499th anniversary.
"I hope Jakarta residents will live comfortably, easily, and happily," Pramono said at the HI Roundabout in Central Jakarta, on June 27, 2026.
Therefore, he said, the Jakarta Provincial Government is continuing to improve public transportation services and prioritize solving waste problems, reducing flooding, and accelerating integrated infrastructure development.
Echoing Pramono, Jakarta Deputy Governor Rano Karno also stated that Jakarta's 500th anniversary in 2027 is a crucial opportunity to prepare the city for global challenges. For this reason, he emphasized that Jakarta's development continues to prioritize its citizens' interests and welfare.
"Jakarta must be ready to embrace global change. However, the most important thing is not just building tall buildings, but improving human well-being. Therefore, we will continue the development that has been initiated so that the public can increasingly feel the benefits," Rano concluded.
