TEMPO.CO, Jakarta The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) is currently investigating a corruption case linked to mining activities in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, as confirmed by the Acting Deputy of Enforcement and Execution Asep Guntur Rahayu.
"It's true that we are handling the said case," Asep said at the KPK's Red and White Building on Thursday, August 14, 2025, addding that KPK could not yet reveal the progress, as a preliminary investigation is underway.
KPK previously raised concern about possible corruption in the mining sector. The anti-corruption agency then conducted a study on mining management carried out since 2009, and presented the results to seven ministries on July 24, 2025.
The seven ministries are: the Ministry of Forestry, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of Industry, Ministry of Trade, and the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/BKPM (Investment Coordinating Board).
Additionally, KPK also summoned the former Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arifin Tasrif on July 9, 2025, to question him about the management of mining, especially in the eastern regions of Indonesia.
Based on Tempo's observation, Arifin Tasrif arrived at the KPK Building at 9:30 a.m., and was inside the investigation room for over 6 hours and only left in the evening, at 6:02 p.m. "Well, this is an explanation regarding the management and everything for future improvement," Arifin Tasrif said when leaving the KPK Building on Wednesday.
He denied that his presence at the anti-corruption agency's office was related to an investigation. Arifin stated that the KPK only requested his information regarding the mineral mining investigation. "There's actually no case, since it's still under preliminary investigation," he said.
He also said his visit to KPK was to provide advices on mentioned that his visit to the KPK was also to provide mineral mining. Arifin mentioned that the probe stemmed from information and studies that have been conducted. "I just gave some suggestions for the future," Arifin Tasrif said.
