Luhut Urges Retired TNI Forum to Acknowledge VP Gibran

14 hours ago 3

Chairman of the National Economic Council (DEN) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said that the Forum of Retired TNI (Indonesian Military) Officers must recognize Gibran Rakabuming Raka as vice president. Luhut asked them to obey the constitution. If not, there is no need to live in Indonesia.

"Yes, you must obey (recognize Gibran as vice president). If you do not obey the constitution, do not live in Indonesia," he said at Balai Kartini, Jakarta, Tuesday, May 6, 2025.

Luhut also asked the forum that proposed the impeachment of Gibran Rakabuming Raka as vice president not to divide the elements of society. This TNI general (ret.) does not want the nation to be divided by foreign powers.

"Don't let our country be divided by foreign powers," he said

Luhut previously asked the Retired TNI Forum not to make a fuss. He considered their actions to be unsophisticated.

"We must be united. This is the state of the world. This commotion is rustic," said the former Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment at the Presidential Palace complex, Central Jakarta, Monday, May 5, 2025.

Luhut said that the retirees should support the government of Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka. The TNI retirees should be united.

"We must focus on supporting the government," he said.

Last month, hundreds of TNI retirees who are members of the TNI Retired Soldiers Forum proposed to President Prabowo Subianto that Gibran Rakabuming Raka's position as Vice President be replaced. The forum considered the Constitutional Court's or MK's decision on Article 169 letter q of the Election Law to violate the MK's procedural law and the Judicial Power Law.

"Proposing the replacement of the Vice President to the MPR because the Constitutional Court's decision on Article 169 letter q of the Election Law has violated the Constitutional Court's procedural law and the Judicial Power Law," read one of their eight demands read out on April 17, 2025.

In addition to demanding Gibran's impeachment, the first point of the retired generals also demanded the return of the original 1945 Constitution as the political legal system and government order.

The document was signed by, among others, General TNI (ret.) Fachrul Razi, General TNI (ret.) Tyasno Soedarto, Admiral TNI (ret.) Slamet Soebijanto, and Marshal TNI (ret.) Hanafie Asnan, and was acknowledged by General TNI (ret.) Try Sutrisno, vice president 1993-1998.

Special Advisor to the President for Politics and Security General TNI (ret.) Wiranto said that President Prabowo Subianto understands the eight demands submitted by the Retired TNI Forum. One of the groups is demanding the replacement of Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka to the MPR.

Wiranto said that Prabowo understands the demands of the Retired TNI Forum because he is from the same alma mater as the generals and colonels of the Retired TNI Forum. Although he understands that, said Wiranto, Prabowo cannot immediately answer a number of demands directly.

"Because these are not trivial problems, very fundamental problems," he said at the Presidential Office, Central Jakarta, Thursday, April 24, 2025.
