TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Nearly all main roads in Aceh Province remain disconnected as of December 1, 2025, following widespread floods and landslides over the past week, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) reported.

Abdul Muhari, Head of BNPB’s Data, Information, and Disaster Communication Center, said key routes including Sumatera-Aceh Tamiang, Gayo Lues-Aceh Tamiang, Bireuen-Takengon, and Bener Meriah-Bireuen are still impassable. The Banda Aceh-Lhokseumawe road has also been disrupted.

“An alternative route is available through the Awe Geutah Suspension Bridge, but access is limited,” Abdul said on Tuesday, December 2, 2025.

Government Accelerates Infrastructure Repairs

The central government, through the Ministry of Public Works, is accelerating the repair of vital infrastructure.

To maintain communication, BNPB has activated Starlink emergency devices in Aceh Timur, Aceh Utara, Gayo Lues, Aceh Tengah, Bener Meriah, Lhokseumawe, Bireuen, and Aceh Tamiang. The deployment of additional devices to other areas is ongoing.

On Monday, December 1, BNPB distributed relief supplies by sea to Lhokseumawe using the Express Bahari Ship from Krueng Geukeuh Port to Kuala Langsa Port. The aid includes hygiene kits, mattresses, blankets, groceries, cleaning supplies, and ready-to-eat food.

Air distribution is also being conducted for hard-to-reach areas such as Gayo Lues, Aceh Tamiang, and Lhokseumawe.

Casualties and Displacement

As of Monday afternoon, Aceh Province recorded 156 deaths and 181 people still missing. Victims are scattered across Bener Meriah, Aceh Tengah, Pidie Jaya, Bireuen, Aceh Tenggara, Aceh Utara, Aceh Timur, Lhokseumawe, Gayo Lues, Subulussalam, and Nagan Raya. The increase in missing persons is due to additional reports from residents.

The disaster has displaced 479,300 people across multiple districts, with North Aceh Regency hosting the largest concentration at 107,305 individuals.
