TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that Israel has rejected U.S. President Donald Trump's 15-point plan for Gaza.
According to DW, the prime minister stressed that the Israeli military will not withdraw from Gaza until Hamas is fully disarmed.
"Israel rejects the 15-point document. The IDF (Israel's military, known as the Israel Defense Forces) will not carry out any withdrawal until Hamas is genuinely disarmed and will continue to thwart threats against our forces and our citizens," Netanyahu said at a Cabinet meeting.
Last month, Trump announced that his Board of Peace had reached a "historic" agreement with Hamas and other Palestinian militant groups in the Gaza Strip to disarm.
Israel designates Hamas as a terrorist group, alongside several other countries including the United States and Germany.
Hamas urges U.S. to pressure Netanyahu to accept Gaza deal
After Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected the U.S.-backed Gaza peace plan, a Hamas official told the AFP news agency that the United States must pressure Israel to accept the next phase of the plan.
"We expect the mediators and the American guarantor to pressure Netanyahu and his government to adhere to the roadmap and not obstruct the process for internal political and electoral reasons," AFP cited Hamas political bureau member Bassem Naim as saying.
Earlier, Hamas said it had agreed to the plan to spare the people of Gaza from a possible resumption of war. However, the militant group added that the deal's implementation would depend on Israel first meeting its commitments, including withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.
