Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki located in East Flores, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT), erupted with a volcanic ash column reaching up to eight kilometers above its crater on early Monday, August 18, 2025. The volcanic eruption was recorded at 02:21 local time and was followed by several other eruptions on Monday morning.

Observation Post for Volcanic Activity (PGA) at Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki, Emanuel Rofinus Bere, reported that the early morning eruption was recorded on seismographs with a maximum amplitude of 47.3 mm and a duration of 5 minutes 21 seconds. "The eruption was accompanied by a loud explosion heard at the PGA post of Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki," Emanuel's report for the Geological Agency based in Bandung, West Java, stated.

In the morning, around 07:23 local time, the 1,584-meter-high mountain above sea level erupted again and spewed volcanic ash reaching 3.5 kilometers. Less than an hour later, precisely at 08:14 local time, Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki erupted once more. Visual observation of the eruption was not possible, but seismograph recordings indicated a maximum amplitude of 29.6 mm and a duration of 179 seconds.

"Subsequently, Mount Lewotobi erupted three more times at 08:34, 08:57, and 09:11 local time, with the height of the volcanic ash column reaching four kilometers above the crater."

The Center of Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) Geological Agency still sets the status of Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki at Level IV or Caution, the highest level of volcano activity. Residents in the vicinity are advised not to carry out activities within a radius of six kilometers and in the west-north-northeast sector up to seven kilometers from the eruption center.

People in disaster-prone areas are urged to remain vigilant of potential mud floods during heavy rains, especially in the areas of Dulipali, Sand Desert, Nobo, Nurabelen, Klatanlo, Hokeng Jaya, Boru, and Nawakote.
