Netflix Reveals First Look at One Piece Season 2 Featuring Chopper

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The first teaser for One Piece live-action Season 2 premiered at Netflix Tudum 2025: The Live Event, held at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles on Saturday, May 31, 2025 (local time). Among the highlights was the introduction of Tony Tony Chopper, one of the new characters joining the series, with Mikaela Hoover confirmed as the voice behind him.

Main cast members Iñaki Godoy (Luffy), Mackenyu (Zoro), Emily Rudd (Nami), Jacob Romero (Usopp), and Taz Skylar (Sanji) appeared on stage to tease what fans can expect from the upcoming season, which is slated to premiere in 2026.

Mikaela Hoover on Voicing Chopper

Tony Tony Chopper, the blue-nosed reindeer from the original One Piece manga and anime, is the Straw Hat Pirates’ doctor. He dreams of traveling the world and finding a cure for every disease. Loyal and outspoken, Chopper is known for his tough exterior and soft heart.

"What excited me about playing Chopper is the tug of war between his standoffishness and his huge heart," said Mikaela Hoover during the Netflix Tudum event. "He tries so hard to hide his emotions and put on a tough exterior, but underneath, he’s a big softy, and his love can’t help but come out."

Hoover also reflected on how Chopper resonates with audiences: "We all want to be loved and accepted. We go to great lengths to keep the people that we love safe. There’s a purity to his nature that reminds us of what’s good in the world."

Bringing Chopper to Life

Chopper’s character design for the live-action series is adapted from Eiichiro Oda’s original manga illustrations. Visual effects for the character are being handled by Framestone, with Victor Scalise leading the team as visual effects supervisor.

"It’s been a lot of fun. We’ve got a great team leading that process with Chopper … I think the audience, when they see him, they’re going to be very happy," said Scalise.

About Tony Tony Chopper

Chopper made his manga debut in Chapter 134 of One Piece (2000), and first appeared in the anime in Episode 81 (2001). His name comes from the Japanese word "tonakai", meaning reindeer. After consuming a Zoan-type Devil Fruit, Chopper gained the ability to transform into a human-reindeer hybrid and communicate like a human.

In addition to the main story, Chopper has also appeared in spin-off works, including the manga Chopperman (2011), where he plays a superhero version of himself.
