Nobuo Yamada, a Japanese rock singer, passed away on August 9, 2025, at the age of 61 due to kidney cancer. Yamada, known for his solo career, made notable contributions to the 'Super Sentai' franchise, performing theme songs for 'GoGo Sentai Boukenger' (2006) and 'Tensou Sentai Goseiger' (2010). He was renowned for singing the song 'Pegasus Fantasy' from the anime series 'Saint Seiya.'
In 2022, he performed at the 'Saint Seiya Symphonic Adventure' concert in Paris and participated in the 'Pegasus Fantasy A Symphonic Experience' concert in Mexico in 2023, which was attended by 18,000 spectators according to Oricon.
About Saint Seiya
'Saint Seiya' is an anime series that follows the adventures of Saints, young warriors who devote their lives to protect Athena, the goddess of wisdom and war. According to Fandom, the story begins with a 13-year-old boy named Seiya who is sent to the Sanctuary to obtain the Pegasus Bronze Cloth, a protective armor that can only be worn by one of Athena's 88 Saints.
After six years of training, Seiya obtains the armor and returns to Japan hoping to reunite with his sister, only to find her missing.
His encounter with Saori Kido, Mitsumasa Kido's granddaughter, marks the beginning of a new adventure. Saori strikes a deal with Seiya: if he participates in the Galaxian Wars tournament to compete for the Sagittarius Gold Cloth and wins, she will help him find his sister.
However, the tournament is disrupted by the appearance of Phoenix Ikki, leading to a greater conflict and uniting Seiya with his friends and rivals to fight against evil forces.
The Saints fight without weapons, relying on their spiritual energy called 'cosmo.' Seiya, a Pegasus Saint, is at the forefront of the battle.
According to IMDb, the original 'Saint Seiya' series, which aired from 1986 to 1989, consisted of 114 episodes, divided into three seasons: Galaxian Wars, Sanctuary, Asgard, and Poseidon. The anime's popularity stemmed from the combination of visuals, mythological narrative, and supporting soundtrack, such as 'Pegasus Fantasy' performed by NoB.
