TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Pokemon Company (TPC) hopes to see the Pokemon fan base in Indonesia continue to grow alongside the launch of initiatives ranging from "Poké Wayang" to the "Pikachu's Indonesia Journey" event.
"Although we aren't directly addressing the business side of things, we sincerely hope that the number of fans in Indonesia will continue to increase," said Takato Utsunomiya, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of The Pokémon Company, while speaking with Antara in Jakarta on Monday, September 14, 2026.
He also revealed that Indonesia generates the highest viewership for the Pokémon Kids TV YouTube channel, surpassing even India.
"We have a YouTube channel called Pokémon Kids TV, and it turns out that the number of views—or plays—and the overall audience for Pokémon Kids TV in Indonesia ranks first in the world, beating out India," he added.
Focusing on the Indonesian market, he noted that the country is a key area of consideration, with at least ten Indonesian nationals currently employed by The Pokémon Company.
"They don't just handle tasks related to Indonesia; they are also involved in game development and other work concerning various Pokémon content. We always seek input from our Indonesian colleagues—our friends from Indonesia working at Pokémon," he said.
To celebrate its 30th anniversary, Pokémon has collaborated with Indonesia to showcase the country's rich cultural heritage through *Wayang* (traditional puppetry), presenting "Poké Wayang"—a project also imbued with moral lessons for Indonesian children.
Through the adventures of Pikachu and other Pokémon as they overcome various obstacles, TPC aims to instill values regarding the importance of teamwork and mutual support among friends and loved ones.
To further enhance the atmosphere, iconic music from the Pokémon video game series has been rearranged with gamelan instrumentation, creating a cheerful and unique vibe within the world of "Poké Wayang." The premiere performance of this collaboration is scheduled for the World Conference on Creative Economy (WCCE) on October 22, 2026, with plans to take the "Poké Wayang" show on tour to elementary schools across Indonesia.
In addition, TPC will roll out several initiatives, including Indonesian language support for "Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket," the "Pokémon RUN 30" event, and "Pikachu’s Indonesia Journey"—which will be held concurrently with the "Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 Experience Jakarta"—to engage with fans in Indonesia.
