TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa formally handed over his position as Indonesia’s finance minister to Suahasil Nazara at the Ministry of Finance in Jakarta on Tuesday, September 15.
At the handover ceremony, Purbaya thanked ministry officials for their cooperation during his one-year tenure.
“For me, today is an important moment. When I came here at the time, I could talk at length because it was about creating optimism. Now I am handing it over to Mr. Suahasil, so I will keep it brief. Thank you all for your cooperation over the past year,” Purbaya said in his remarks.
Suahasil, meanwhile, thanked Purbaya for his leadership over the past 12 months.
He said Purbaya had continued the Finance Ministry’s role as the government institution responsible for managing state finances while strengthening collaboration across its various units.
“This is the situation I inherited, and I want to thank you for that,” Suahasil said.
Suahasil also asked stakeholders to continue supporting the ministry as he takes over the post, emphasizing the need for continued cooperation.
“Please open the door for further cooperation as I take on the mandate as finance minister to complete the remainder of the 2024-2029 Red and White Cabinet’s term. We will meet again on various other occasions,” he said.
Suahasil, a former deputy finance minister, was appointed finance minister by President Prabowo Subianto under Presidential Decree No. 97P of 2026 on the Dismissal and Appointment of the Finance Minister for the Remainder of the 2024-2029 Term. The decree was issued on September 14, 2026.
Suahasil is the third finance minister under President Prabowo Subianto. Purbaya was appointed to the post on September 8, 2025, replacing Sri Mulyani Indrawati.
Suahasil first became deputy finance minister on October 25, 2019, under President Joko Widodo’s Onward Indonesia Cabinet. He was reappointed to the position under President Prabowo’s 2024-2029 Red and White Cabinet on October 21, 2024.
