Police Raid Jakarta Cafe in Probe of Sumatra Blackout Corruption Case

6 days ago 62

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta Investigators from the Indonesian National Police's Corruption Eradication Task Force (Kortastipidkor Polri) along with the Director of the Criminal Investigation Department for Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) raided Cafe de'Clan Signature on Jalan Cilandak Tengah, Cipete, South Jakarta on Wednesday, July 8, 2026. The raid is related to three cases: money laundering or TPPI and bribery in the PT Asabri case; corruption in coal supply leading to a massive blackout in Sumatra; and the PT Krakatau Steel case.

"We continue to make efforts in law enforcement, currently through a joint investigation scheme in handling corruption and money laundering cases in the legal process of PT Asabri and PT Krakatau Steel," said the Head of Kortastipidkor Polri, Inspector General Totok Suharyanto, on Wednesday.

Before being renamed Cafe de'Clan, the caf was formerly known as Gontran Cherrier. This French cafe was the location of the surveillance of the Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes of the Attorney General's Office, Febrie Adriansyah, by members of Densus 88 on May 19, 2024. Febrie was reportedly a frequent visitor there.

In the alleged surveillance incident, Febrie's military police guard caught and arrested the Densus 88 member. Febrie then contacted the then Head of the Indonesian National Police Criminal Investigation Department, Police Commissioner General Wahyu Widada, to inquire about the reason he was being followed by members of Densus 88. However, Wahyu claimed to be unaware of the assignment and requested the release of the Densus 88 member.

Cafe de'Clan is not the first to be targeted for a raid. In 2025, the police also planned to raid the caf. The caf is managed by Ferry Yanto Hongkiriwang, who is suspected to have connections with Febrie Adriansyah.

In the course of events in this phase, there was an alleged surveillance incident part II. This time, the surveillance targeted Ferry Yanto.

On Friday, July 25, 2025, while having lunch at Bogor Cafe, Hotel Borobudur, Jakarta, Ferry was trailed by a member of Densus 88 named Briptu Faisal Faizurrahman. Aware that he was being followed, Ferry immediately contacted a high-ranking officer of the Indonesian National Armed Forces or TNI. Shortly after, several soldiers allegedly from the Strategic Intelligence Agency or Bais TNI arrived at the location and detained Briptu Faisal.

In the Tempo Magazine issue dated August 24, 2025, law enforcement officers who were investigating the abduction of a Densus 88 member at the time stated that Briptu Faisal was from the same team as the Densus 88 personnel who had previously trailed Febrie.

Three days after the incident at Hotel Borobudur, the police arrested Ferry Yanto. He was arrested for alleged kidnapping, assault against Briptu Faisal, and obstruction of investigation. In this case, the police had planned to raid Cafe de'Clan, which was managed by Ferry.

When asked if the de'Clan restaurant still had connections to Febrie, a police officer involved in today's raid said that they had indeed heard about Febrie. "Yes, we've heard, but that has to be proven with documents," the officer said.
