TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto conferred Indonesia's highest honor, Bintang Republik Indonesia Adipurna (The Star of the Republic of Indonesia), on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his role in strengthening relations between the two countries.
"Today, as President of the Republic of Indonesia, I would like to express my gratitude to His Excellency Prime Minister Narendra Modi for accepting the highest honor from the Republic of Indonesia, Bintang Republik Indonesia Adipurna," Prabowo said during a joint statement at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Tuesday, as quoted by ANTARA.
Prabowo stated that the awarding of the Bintang Adipurna to Indian PM Modi was a recognition of his leadership and contributions to strengthening Indonesia-India relations, elevating them to a comprehensive strategic partnership, as well as his ongoing efforts to improve cooperative relations.
Additionally, PM Modi was awarded the honorary award due to his support for various programs and projects that help Indonesia's development.
The award was quite special, considering that a similar honor was also given to India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru for his role in strengthening Indonesia-India relations and as a pioneer of the Non-Aligned Movement.
"Prime Minister Modi's visit this time is a historic milestone. It reflects the commitment of both countries to continue advancing a comprehensive strategic partnership through concrete and mutually beneficial cooperation," said Prabowo.
Modi expressed his appreciation for the highest honor and gratitude to President Prabowo, the Indonesian government, and its people regarding the award.
"This award is not just for me, but for millions of Indians, as a reflection of the Indonesian people's feelings of friendship and a symbol of the historical and close ties between India and Indonesia," he said.
He also highlighted that in recent years, relations between the two countries have reached a very strong level, with the comprehensive strategic partnership established in 2018 entering a new phase.
Modi himself is scheduled to be in Indonesia for two days. During his working visit, he is also scheduled to visit Prambanan Temple and sign several memorandums of understanding. The visit to the Prambanan Temple is part of Indonesia's and India's efforts to restore the temple.
