TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian president Prabowo Subianto outlined 18 downstream industrial projects to American business leaders as part of Indonesia’s push to accelerate national economic transformation.
Speaking at a Business Summit hosted by the US Chamber of Commerce in Washington, DC, on Wednesday afternoon, February 18, 2026 local time, Prabowo said Indonesia is moving rapidly to strengthen its domestic processing industry and reduce reliance on raw material exports.
“We have just started 18 downstream projects this year,” Prabowo said, as quoted by Antara.
The projects, the President added, form part of a broader strategy to increase the added value of Indonesia’s natural resources, generate employment, and reinforce the country’s industrial base.
The government is also preparing a US$3 billion waste-to-energy initiative aimed at improving environmental management and strengthening energy resilience.
Prabowo also said Indonesia’s sovereign wealth fund, Danantara, will play a central role in financing and accelerating the downstream projects. He added that expanding domestic processing capacity is key to positioning Indonesia higher in global supply chains.
“We are moving very quickly in all these sectors, and I believe for American companies, Indonesia will not only be an attractive market but also a production base and a strategic partner in the region,” he said.
In parallel with industrial development, the government is accelerating the construction of supporting infrastructure, including ports, airports, and toll roads, to enhance logistical efficiency.
Prabowo inked the downstreaming agenda to Indonesia’s energy transition goals. The government is committed to developing renewable energy, electric vehicles, and green industries through what he described as a pragmatic approach aligned with national capabilities.
The meeting, titled the “Business Summit in Honor of H.E. Prabowo Subianto, President of the Republic of Indonesia”, marked the start of Prabowo’s official agenda in Washington.
It brought together Indonesian ministers, representatives of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), the US-ASEAN Business Council (USABC), and the US-Indonesia Society (USINDO).
The summit was held ahead of the signing ceremony of a reciprocal trade agreement, one of the key items on Prabowo’s visit to the United States.
