TEMPO.COJakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto instructed his staff to assess various potential impacts of the United States (US) Supreme Court's ruling on global tariff policy. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto delivered Prabowo's directive in Washington, D.C., United States, on Saturday, February 21, 2026, local time.

"Yesterday, we reported to the President, and he asked us to study all possible risks," said Airlangga, as quoted in a video caption on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube channel.

Airlangga stated that the Indonesian government is prepared for various eventualities. The US Supreme Court's ruling scenario had been discussed with the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) even before Indonesia signed the trade agreement with the US.

"Indonesia is ready for various scenarios because the US Supreme Court's decision scenario was discussed with the USTR before we signed it," Airlangga said.

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and US President Donald Trump signed a reciprocal trade agreement in Washington, D.C., United States, on Thursday, February 19, 2026, local time. The bilateral meeting between the two heads of state took place approximately 30 minutes after the Peace Council meeting. The signing also formalized the imposition of tariffs on Indonesian products to the US at 19 percent.

However, at the same time, the US Supreme Court ruled that Trump's trade tariff policy against many countries was unconstitutional. The court ruled that the President lacked the inherent authority to impose large-scale tariffs on any country. Within hours of the ruling, President Donald Trump announced the imposition of 10 percent tariffs on all countries.

The Indonesian government emphasized that the signed trade agreement with the US remains in effect. According to Airlangga Hartarto, despite the US Supreme Court ruling on global tariff policy, the Indonesia-US trade agreement remains in effect as agreed.

Airlangga stated that the US Supreme Court ruling relates to the cancellation of global tariffs and the refund or reimbursement of tariffs to certain corporations. Meanwhile, the agreement between Indonesia and the United States is a bilateral agreement and remains in effect due to its own mechanisms.

"For Indonesia, which has signed the agreement, this is an agreement between two countries. It is still in process because the agreement stipulates that it take effect within 60 days after signing, and each party must consult with the necessary institutions," said Airlangga.

Regarding this bilateral agreement, Indonesia has requested that the agreed-upon 0 percent tariff scheme for several commodities be maintained, particularly agricultural products like coffee and cocoa, which already have their own regulations through executive orders.

"Yesterday, Indonesia signed the agreement, and what Indonesia requested is that all others apply at 10 percent, but we request that those already granted 0 percent remain," said Airlangga.

Airlangga said that the 0 percent tariff scheme not only covers the agricultural sector but also covers several industrial supply chains, such as electronic products, crude palm oil (CPO), textiles, and footwear.

The government is currently awaiting developments over the next two months, or 60 days. According to Airlangga, there will be policy differences between countries that have signed bilateral agreements and those that haven't. "Because some countries that have (signed) will be given policies that are not the same globally," Airlangga said.
