Former KPK investigator, Yudi Purnomo Harahap, believes that Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto's speech at the 2025 MPR Annual Session can be viewed as a positive indicator for law enforcement. "One of the problems in our nation that has never been resolved in 80 years of independence is the presence of mafias who control the state," Yudi told Tempo on Saturday, August 16, 2025.

According to Yudi, the mafias mentioned by the president have been undermining crucial aspects such as state revenues, food security, and natural resource management. He appreciates Prabowo's commitment to take firm action against rice, government projects, mining, and illegal palm oil mafias.

Yudi also noted Prabowo's boldness in mentioning the possible involvement of active or retired generals. "He also stated that he would be strict with anyone, even if there are generals involved," he said.

He referred to Prabowo's stance when the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Edhy Prabowo, was embroiled in a corruption case. At that time, Prabowo did not obstruct the KPK and instead supported the legal resolution of the case.

For Yudi, this speech marks an open war against corruption. He describes the president's statement as an encouragement for law enforcement to be more diligent in resolving cases. "Now law enforcers must move on when the president speaks again about eradicating corruption. At least, it is a good signal," he said.

Nevertheless, Yudi reminds the public to await the realization of such commitments. "Time will tell how law enforcers will realize the president's speech," he said.

In his speech at the Annual MPR Session at the Parliament Complex, Nusantara Building, Jakarta on Friday, August 15, 2025, Prabowo addressed a number of legal issues including rice mafia, corruption, illegal mining, and palm oil land. He urged all members of political parties to immediately become witnesses as justice collaborators if involved in illegal mining activities, including his own party, the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra).

Prabowo claims that he will not protect party members involved in illegal mining activities. He also warned generals who become backers of illegal mining entrepreneurs. "I'm warning all the generals, whether from the TNI (Indonesian National Armed Forces) or the police, former generals; there are no excuses. We act in the name of the people," said Prabowo Subianto.
