TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto said the government is preparing replacement housing for flood victims in Sumatra as part of broader efforts to help affected communities recover from the disaster.
Speaking during an on-site inspection at an evacuation center in Bener Meriah, Aceh, on Friday, December 12, 2025, Prabowo said the government is committed to restoring the lives of residents impacted by the floods.
“We will get through this together. Plans are already in place to replace all the damaged homes,” Prabowo said, as broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat’s YouTube channel.
He urged affected residents to remain patient, acknowledging that post-disaster recovery is a gradual process. Prabowo emphasized that the government and related agencies are working intensively to restore conditions in the affected areas.
“Of course, we ask for everyone’s patience, because this cannot be resolved overnight,” he said.
Earlier, Prabowo approved a housing assistance budget of Rp60 million (around US$3,900) per unit to repair homes damaged by the disaster in Sumatra.
The decision followed a briefing from National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) head Suharyanto during a coordination meeting with ministers and agency leaders in Aceh on Sunday night, December 7, 2025.
Suharyanto reported that 37,546 houses across Sumatra were damaged, ranging from light to severe. He said Rp60 million per unit was required to support reconstruction efforts.
Prabowo agreed to the proposal but instructed officials to adjust the budget to account for rising prices and inflation. “We need to factor in price increases and inflation,” he said.
