TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto will allocate Rp164.4 trillion in the 2026 Draft State Budget and Revenue (RAPBN) for the food security program. He announced this during his speech on the RAPBN in a plenary session of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) on Friday, August 15, 2025.
Prabowo said the funds will be used for fertilizer subsidies, expansion of rice fields, agricultural equipment subsidies, and operational funds for the State Logistics Agency (Bulog).
"Indonesia must achieve food self-sufficiency, especially for corn and rice. Indonesia must be sovereign in food matters," he said.
Of the total budget, Rp53.3 trillion will go to food security, Rp46.9 trillion will subsidize 9.62 million tons of fertilizer, and Rp22.7 trillion will be allocated to Bulog. The 2026 RAPBN food program budget has increased by Rp8.9 trillion compared to this year’s Rp155.5 trillion.
Prabowo noted that the government has reduced 145 fertilizer distribution regulations this year, a move he said contributed to increased rice production.
"Currently, the government's rice stockpile has reached over 4 million tons," he stated.
In his earlier state address at the annual People session, Prabowo also said Indonesia had successfully resumed rice and corn exports to friendly countries.
"For the first time in decades, Indonesia can once again export rice and corn. Everywhere I look, farmers are smiling because paddy prices are stable and their income has increased," he said.
Prabowo has set a target to achieve food self-sufficiency within four years. However, he claims that significant results are already visible within the first few months of his administration.
Last June, he expressed optimism that Indonesia could achieve food self-sufficiency in just one year.
