TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto will attend the Board of Peace Summit today, Thursday, February 19, 2026. The inaugural meeting of this international body, founded by US President Donald Trump, is planned to be held in Washington, D.C.
State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi explained that Prabowo will also sign a trade tariff agreement, or agreement on reciprocal trade (ART), between Indonesia and the United States.
"The President's first agenda item is to attend the invitation regarding the Board of Peace meeting. Furthermore, based on coordination between the two countries, one additional agenda item is, God willing, there will be a signing of a trade tariff agreement with the United States government," said Prasetyo at the House of Representatives Building in the Senayan area of Jakarta, on Wednesday, February 18, 2026.
The Gerindra Party politician stated that the signing of the tariff agreement is planned to take place on the same day as the Board of Peace Summit. "After the BoP, there will be plans to sign a tariff agreement," said Prasetyo.
Prasetyo claimed Prabowo has a good relationship with Trump. He hopes the good relationship between the two heads of state will facilitate the agenda in the United States, particularly regarding the tariff agreement. Currently, Prasetyo said, the import tariff for Indonesian goods to the United States that will be signed is likely to be 19 percent.
However, according to Prasetyo, the relationship between Prabowo and Trump could result in lower tariffs agreed upon by the US for Indonesia. "Perhaps during the communication process, it's possible that due to the good relationship between these two leaders, there could be policy changes; we don't know," Prasetyo said.
Prasetyo believes that Prabowo's meeting with Trump can be beneficial for the Indonesian nation. "We all hope that perhaps in the meeting between President Prabowo and President Trump, there may be changes that will benefit our nation and country," he said.
Indonesia's participation in Trump's Board of Peace has drawn criticism, including from former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Dino Patti Djalal.
Dino stated that there are at least four warning signs, or "yellow lights," related to Indonesia's decision to join the Peace Council. First, the positions of the participating countries are unequal.
Second, President Trump appears to view the Board of Peace as his own "club." As a result, risky decisions are made based on ego rather than objective consideration.
Third, Dino highlighted Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's participation in the Peace Council. Meanwhile, Palestine, the victims of Israel's war, has no place on the Peace Council.
The fourth yellow light highlighted by Dino is the speech delivered by the executive board at the launch of the Board of Peace, which did not reflect empathy for the suffering of the Palestinian people since October 2023.
