CHAIR of the National Economic Council (DEN) Luhut Binsar Panjaitan said that Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto will launch Payment ID in September 2025 in Banyuwangi, East Java.

"The second or third week of September," said Luhut during his statement at the DEN office in Central Jakarta on Wednesday, August 13, 2025.

Executive Director for Policy Synchronization of DEN's Priority Economic Programs Tubagus Nugraha stated that the public can apply for social protection or assistance using the Digital Population Identity (IKD) authentication method through the digital assistance portal or using biometric or face recognition methods for those without mobile phones. He hopes that IKD as a digital identity can facilitate public access to safe and integrated government digital services.

"Applications will be automatically processed using integrated cross-source data (including data from Payment ID) through the Government Service Liaison System (SPLP)," Tubagus said based on his statement quoted on Wednesday, August 13, 2025.

DEN Expert Rahmat Danu Andika said that those without mobile phones can authenticate using biometric or face recognition methods through field officer devices. He mentioned this to ensure the inclusivity of services during the upcoming trial period.

"For recipients who do not have smartphones and therefore cannot activate IKD," Andika said based on his statement quoted on Wednesday, August 13, 2025.

Furthermore, Bank Indonesia clarified the news about the central bank being able to monitor public transaction activities through the Payment ID system. Deputy Director of Payment System Policy of Bank Indonesia Dicky Kartikoyono said that they will never intrude into the public's privacy, including checking individual transactions.

"It's not for individual use, I think that's too excessive and there is no best practice for that," Dicky told journalists in Central Jakarta on Tuesday, August 13, 2025.

Dicky denied that BI will spy on public privacy through the system, which is still in the trial phase. Moreover, he stated that they always comply with digital world regulatory systems, including the Personal Data Protection Law. "So data can only be used in accordance with the consent of the owners," Dicky said.
