
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto arrived in Yogyakarta to accompany Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his visit to Prambanan Temple. Prabowo landed at Yogyakarta International Airport, Kulon Progo Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region, on Wednesday morning, 8 July 2026.
State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi revealed that one of the agendas for Prabowo and Modi is to sign a cooperation agreement for the conservation of Prambanan Temple. "In addition, Prime Minister Modi will also take the time to perform religious rituals in the Prambanan Temple complex," Prasetyo told the media on Wednesday.
Quoting the President's Secretariat press release, upon arrival at Yogyakarta International Airport, President Prabowo was welcomed by local officials. The Head of State then went to the reception area to wait for PM Modi, who was also scheduled to arrive at the same airport.
Shortly thereafter, PM Modi arrived and was immediately greeted by President Prabowo. The two leaders were seen shaking hands and exchanging greetings before continuing their agenda together.
From Yogyakarta International Airport, Prabowo and Modi then boarded a helicopter together to Pangkalan TNI AU Adisucipto, Sleman Regency. The two leaders then continued their journey to the Prambanan Temple complex, Sleman Regency. President Prabowo and PM Modi will inspect several temple areas in the area, which is a world heritage site.
In addition to the inspection, Prabowo and Modi are scheduled to witness the unveiling of a cooperation plaque for the conservation of the cultural heritage of Indonesia-India for Prambanan Temple. The agenda is claimed to be a symbol of strengthening cultural cooperation between the two countries, which have been historically and culturally linked for centuries.
The visit to Prambanan Temple is part of PM Modi's state visit to Indonesia. Modi is visiting Indonesia for three days. He has been in Jakarta since Monday, 6 July 2026.
President Prabowo officially welcomed Modi at a state event at the Merdeka Palace on Tuesday, 7 July 2026. They also held a closed bilateral meeting attended by their respective delegations and a luncheon together.
Several strategic memorandums of understanding (MoUs) between Indonesia and India were signed at the Merdeka Palace. This meeting resulted in 16 agreements between the two countries.
During his visit, PM Modi and the Indian Government delegation also visited the Parliament Building, Senayan area, Jakarta. In the evening, PM Modi attended an Indian Community Reception. In addition to visiting the capital city, Modi also visited Yogyakarta to see the Prambanan Temple.
