TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former Indonesian Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said his roughly one-year tenure produced positive results, pointing to the country’s economic growth as one measure of his performance.
“At least, it's decent. We have managed to raise economic growth from around 5 percent, or below 5 percent, to above 5 percent,” Purbaya told reporters after the handover ceremony for the finance minister's post at the Finance Ministry in Jakarta on Tuesday.
Purbaya became finance minister on September 8, 2025, replacing Sri Mulyani Indrawati.
During his tenure, Indonesia’s economy grew 5.39 percent year-on-year in the fourth quarter of 2025, followed by 5.61 percent in the first quarter of 2026 and 5.29 percent in the second quarter, according to official data.
No Special Message for Successor
Purbaya said he had no particular message for his successor, Suahasil Nazara, who formally took over the position on Tuesday.
He said Suahasil already had the experience and expertise needed to lead the Finance Ministry.
“No message. He’s already good at it, so just do it according to his expertise,” Purbaya said.
The handover took place a day after Suahasil was sworn in at the State Palace in Jakarta on Monday, September 14.
Suahasil is the third finance minister under President Prabowo Subianto. Purbaya was appointed on September 8, 2025, replacing Sri Mulyani.
Suahasil had previously served as deputy finance minister under President Joko Widodo and continued in the position after Prabowo took office.
Prabowo appointed Suahasil as finance minister through Presidential Decree No. 97P/2026 on the dismissal and appointment of the finance minister for the remainder of the 2024-2029 term.
