TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The national shipping company of Saudi Arabia, Bahri Yanbu, has vehemently denied recent reports alleging its involvement in the transportation of weapons to Israel. In a statement released on its website on Monday, August 11, 2025, Bahri stated, "These allegations are entirely false and without merit," as reported by Middle East Monitor.
Bahri underscored its full commitment to the policies of Saudi Arabia concerning the Palestinian cause, along with adherence to all local and international laws and regulations governing maritime transportation. The company explicitly clarified that it has never transported any goods or shipments to Israel, nor has it ever been involved in such operations in any capacity.
The company added that all of its operations are subject to stringent oversight and clear review procedures to ensure complete compliance with applicable regulations. Bahri also stated its readiness to pursue legal action against any claims that could harm its reputation or misrepresent its policies.
Bahri's denial came in response to reports from Italian media that port workers in Genoa had blocked a Saudi vessel named Bahri Yanbu. The ship was suspected of carrying weapons from the United States to Israel.
As reported by Press TV on Sunday, August 10, 2025, the vessel had arrived from Baltimore, Maryland, and was scheduled to transport military equipment manufactured by the Italian arms conglomerate, Leonardo.
The equipment included Oto Melara cannons intended for the United Arab Emirates, along with tanks and other heavy weaponry located in the terminal yard.
Despite these reports, Bahri vehemently and repeatedly denied the allegations.
