TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The results of a new survey released Tuesday, June 23, by the Pew Research Center found that global trust in United States President Donald Trump remains low, while perceptions of America as a reliable partner also continue to weaken.
As reported by ANTARA, the U.S.'s image in the eyes of the world is also negative. Only 37 percent rated it positively, while 57 percent gave a negative assessment.
Indonesia is one of 15 countries with a sharp decline in assessment levels, along with Italy, Nigeria, South Africa and South Korea.
A survey conducted from February to May of 2026 among 42,151 adult respondents in 36 countries showed that only 23 percent trusted Trump's leadership in handling world affairs. Meanwhile, about two-thirds expressed little or no confidence in Trump's abilities on the international stage.
The survey results also showed that Trump's approval rating declined in 16 of the 24 countries, and it did not increase in any of them.
Perceptions of America's global role have weakened as well. Only 35 percent believe that the U.S. contributes to world peace and stability, while 32 percent think that the U.S. considers the interests of other countries in its foreign policy.
The decline was most visible among longtime U.S. allies. In Canada, the percentage of respondents who rated the U.S. as a reliable partner fell from 83 percent in 2022 to 35 percent today.
Meanwhile, the percentage of Germans who believe the U.S. considers other countries' interests in its foreign policy has dropped from 60 percent in 2023 to 23 percent today.
