PRESIDENT of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, has assigned the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Danantara Indonesia, Rosan Roeslani, to undertake a working visit to Jeddah and Mecca, Saudi Arabia. Rosan has been asked to directly oversee the ongoing process of building a hajj village in the Holy Land.
This hajj village project is set to become a center for services and accommodations for Indonesian hajj and umrah pilgrims. According to Rosan, his presence in Saudi Arabia marks the first time in Indonesia's history that the country is taking the initiative to have an official and permanent facility in Mecca to support pilgrims.
"This visit is a mandate from Mr. President (Prabowo) to ensure that the plan to build the Hajj Village in Mecca can proceed as expected. Insha Allah, we will oversee this process from the initial stage until it is realized, so that all Indonesian pilgrims have facilities that are representative and suitable during their worship," said Rosan in an official statement on Thursday, August 14, 2025.
2. Prabowo's Response to the Protest Against Pati Regent Sudewo
Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi stated that Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto regretted the arrogant attitude of Pati Regent Sudewo in responding to public protests against the 250 percent increase in the Rural and Urban Land and Building Tax (PBB-P2). Sudewo had previously invited the public to protest with 5,000 or 50,000 people to reject the policy.
"There hasn't been a specific response. Yes, of course, Prabowo regrets that. That's his response to anyone," Prasetyo said at the State Palace, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, August 13, 2025.
Prasetyo urged public officials at the central and regional levels to be careful in issuing policies, especially those that directly impact the public. "We have been continuously reminding them of that," he said.
3. Saudi Shipping Company Denies Allegations of Transporting Weapons to Israel
The national shipping company of Saudi Arabia, Bahri Yanbu, has vehemently denied recent reports alleging its involvement in the transportation of weapons to Israel. In a statement released on its website on Monday, August 11, 2025, Bahri stated, "These allegations are entirely false and without merit," as reported by Middle East Monitor.
Bahri underscored its full commitment to the policies of Saudi Arabia concerning the Palestinian cause, along with adherence to all local and international laws and regulations governing maritime transportation. The company explicitly clarified that it has never transported any goods or shipments to Israel, nor has it ever been involved in such operations in any capacity.
