TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - For the majority of travelers, the airport is never the final destination. But the case is different with the airports recognized among the annual Prix Versailles’ ranking of the most beautiful airports in the world.
Each of these selected marvels transforms what was once considered simply a transit space into an architectural landmark, where contemporary design makes beauty an integral part of the travel journey. This year’s ranking spans several continents, with four Asian airports making appearances.
Here’s the complete Prix Versailles ranking of the most beautiful airports in the world 2026.
List of the Most Beautiful Airports in the World 2026
1. Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, Terminal 3
Opened in November last year, Terminal 3 of Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport has quickly been named the world's most beautiful airport for 2026. Its expansion lives up to Guangzhou's nickname as the "Flower City," with a futuristic design centered around the concept of blooming flowers.
The building draws inspiration from Baiyun Mountain, the Pearl River, and the intricate craftsmanship of Lingnan culture in southern China. One of its standout features is the highest open-air public observation deck at any Chinese airport, offering panoramic views of aircraft movements.
2. Frankfurt Airport, Terminal 3
Spanning 1.3 square kilometers, Frankfurt Airport Terminal 3 was designed to make passengers feel as though they are walking through streets, plazas, and neighborhood squares rather than a conventional airport terminal.
The thoughtful use of Jura limestone, travertine, and expansive plate-glass windows is among the defining features. Adding to the visual appeal are three massive rings made from colored aluminum discs that rotate continuously above the terminal, creating a striking kinetic artwork.
3. Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi International Airport, Terminal 2
India is the only country to have two airports featured in this year's Prix Versailles list of the most beautiful airports in the world. Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi International Airport Terminal 2 earned its place with a design inspired by the bamboo orchid, a symbol of Northeast India's rich biodiversity.
The nature-inspired concept extends throughout the terminal, where sweeping vaulted ceilings and organic forms reflect the region's lush landscapes. Even more remarkably, the flowing architectural patterns evoke the Brahmaputra River and its tributaries, creating interiors that mirror Assam's natural scenery.
4. Navi Mumbai International Airport, Terminal 1
Terminal 1 of Navi Mumbai International Airport is India's second representative on the list. Opened in 2025, the terminal is celebrated for seamlessly blending architectural elegance, Indian cultural identity, and modern technology through its distinctive lotus-inspired design. Inside, global travelers are treated to digital art installations placed at key locations.
5. Techo International Airport
Cambodia's Techo International Airport has earned recognition for balancing contemporary engineering with tropical architecture. The terminal incorporates generous greenery, including native rumduol trees, while its sweeping roofline and patterned ceiling draw inspiration from traditional Khmer palaces and woven baskets.
Beyond its visual appeal, Techo International Airport is also praised for its climate-responsive design, which maximizes natural ventilation and daylight to reduce the need for mechanical cooling and artificial lighting during the day.
6. Pittsburgh International Airport
The new terminal at Pittsburgh International Airport is recognized for redefining the passenger experience through a rolling-fold roofline inspired by the Allegheny Mountains. The building also features 38 branching steel columns that resemble the forests surrounding the region. Expansive glass walls flood the interior with natural light, while four outdoor terraces allow passengers to step outside and enjoy fresh air.
7. San Diego International Airport, Terminal 1
Rounding out the 2026 Prix Versailles list of the world's most beautiful airports is San Diego International Airport. Its recently redeveloped Terminal 1 draws inspiration from Southern California's coastal landscape, highlighted by a 244-meter curved glass façade that maximizes natural daylight while reducing heat gain and glare.
The terminal's elegant architecture is the result of a collaboration between Gensler and artist-architect James Carpenter.
From lotus-inspired terminals in India to tropical architecture in Cambodia, this year's Prix Versailles winners prove that airports are no longer merely places to catch a flight. They have become architectural landmarks that showcase local culture, embrace sustainability, and elevate the travel experience.
