UN Says Israeli Restrictions Reduce Aid Deliveries to Gaza

1 week ago 51

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta Restrictions and closures by Israeli authorities have reduced the overall volume of vital aid brought by the United Nations and its partners to Gaza in June, UN humanitarian workers said on Monday, July 6, as reported by Xinhua, citing ANTARA.

United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said that the amount of aid that humanitarian organizations and the private sector can bring into Gaza to meet the enormous needs of the population remains limited because all crossings, except Kerem Shalom/Karem Abu Salem, remain closed to cargo deliveries.

Meanwhile, restrictions on certain types of supplies remain in place, the UN office said. According to OCHA, the UN agency continued to receive food and fuel supplies from the only remaining open crossing over the weekend.

However, the data showed that the total amount of supplies brought into Gaza in June decreased by over 4,600 pallets compared to May's allowance of 46,600 pallets.

"Last week, only 42 percent of the supplies from Egypt and 65 percent of the supplies from Ashdod port, already approved in principle, could be offloaded at Kerem Shalom," OCHA said.

In another related development, concerns continue over the safety and well-being of people, particularly children, in the West Bank, OCHA said.

On Sunday, July 5, Israeli forces shot and killed a 16-year-old boy in the Qalandiya Camp near Jerusalem, and shot two other children in the lower legs, the office said.

In Ramallah Governorate, a four-month-old baby died after Israeli forces refused to open a gate blocking the main entrance to his village, while an ambulance was waiting for the baby on the other side, the UN Human Rights Office said.
