TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto plans to form a special team comprised of academics and researchers. He conveyed this instruction to the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Brian Yuliarto. The President, according to Brian, instructed his staff to establish a task force or working group.
"This team will consist of esteemed professors, lecturers, and researchers from universities and the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN)," he said after the conclusion of the Science, Technology, and Industry Convention attended by Prabowo in Jakarta on Sunday, June 28, 2026.
According to Brian, this task force will contribute to accelerating the strategic policy targets of the government in each ministry. The team will also coordinate with relevant ministries. Brian mentioned that Prabowo emphasized the importance of the science, technology, research, and innovation sectors as the foundation for Indonesia's progress.
"The ideas should be studied together, discussed together in universities. The hope is that these studies are essentially aimed at finding solutions and accelerating the progress and self-reliance of the Indonesian nation," he said.
During the same event, the Head of BRIN, Arif Satria, stated that the agency is currently developing a research roadmap in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology. Arif stated that the direction of research in Indonesia should provide insights into what technology will be developed in the country.
Arif mentioned that the research roadmap will also serve as a guide for Indonesia's industrialization direction. "So that our future industrialization is not based solely on common sense, but based on data, projections of what research is developing so that our industry will also survive and remain relevant," he said.
The Science, Technology, and Industry Convention (STIC) attended by Prabowo took place from Friday to Sunday, June 26-28, 2026. The President was present at the opening and closing of the event, which invited 2,600 lecturers, including professors, deans, and rectors.
Last Friday, during the opening of STIC 2026, Prabowo delivered a nearly five-hour lecture to the academicians. Today, on Sunday, he delivered another nearly four-hour speech in front of the attending lecturers.
The forum titled "National Discussion" attended by Prabowo is part of the Indonesian Science, Technology, and Industry Convention. This event was organized by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology. STIC is President Prabowo's initiative, first held at the Bandung Institute of Technology in August 2025.
