TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Colombia finished top of Group K after holding Portugal to an entertaining 0-0 draw in their final group-stage match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup at Miami Stadium. The result secured first place for Néstor Lorenzo's side on goal difference, while Portugal advanced as runners-up.

Although neither team found the net, the match delivered one of the tournament's most entertaining contests, featuring relentless attacks, outstanding goalkeeping, and a dramatic disallowed goal late in the game.

Colombia completed the group stage unbeaten and will face Ghana in the Round of 32, while Portugal are set to meet Croatia in another high-profile knockout clash.

Colombia 0-0 Portugal

According to Fox Sport, Colombia started brightly and immediately put Portugal under pressure. Jhon Córdoba headed over inside the opening minute before forcing Portugal goalkeeper Diogo Costa into an excellent one-handed save shortly afterward.

Led by James Rodríguez, Colombia dominated possession and repeatedly threatened through Luis Díaz, Jhon Arias, and Córdoba. James dictated the tempo throughout the first half, constantly creating opportunities with his passing and movement.

Portugal gradually settled into the contest but relied heavily on Costa to remain level. The goalkeeper produced several crucial saves to deny Córdoba, James Rodríguez, Jefferson Lerma, and Arias, while João Cancelo also made a vital goal-line clearance following another dangerous Colombian attack.

At the other end, Colombia goalkeeper Camilo Vargas matched Costa's performance by producing a remarkable point-blank save to deny Bruno Fernandes after Portugal's clearest opportunity of the first half.

Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored twice in Portugal's previous 5-0 victory over Uzbekistan, struggled to influence the match and remained largely isolated against Colombia's disciplined defense.

After the break, Colombia resumed control and continued creating chances. James Rodríguez, making a national-record 11th World Cup appearance for Colombia, orchestrated the attack with the composure and creativity that defined his finest performances.

Luis Suárez squandered one of Colombia's best opportunities when he volleyed narrowly over the crossbar, while Richard Ríos and Gustavo Puerta also came close as Portugal struggled to contain the sustained pressure.

The drama reached its peak in the closing moments. Davinson Sánchez appeared to have scored the winning goal after heading home from a pass by Juan Fernando Quintero. However, following the assistant referee's flag, the goal was ruled out for a marginal offside decision, denying Colombia a deserved victory.

Despite the goalless scoreline, the match showcased high-quality football from both sides. Colombia attempted 24 of the game's 37 total shots and consistently looked the more dangerous team throughout the contest.

As reported by BBC Sport, Colombia's 24 attempts represented their highest shot total in a World Cup match on record, underlining their attacking dominance despite failing to score.

The draw confirmed Colombia as Group K winners, while Portugal finished second after failing to claim the victory required to overtake the South Americans.

Starting Lineups

Colombia: Camilo Vargas; Daniel Muñoz, Davinson Sánchez, Jhon Lucumí, Deiver Machado; Jefferson Lerma, Richard Ríos, James Rodríguez; Jhon Arias, Luis Díaz, Jhon Córdoba.

Portugal: Diogo Costa; João Cancelo, Rúben Dias, António Silva, Nuno Mendes; Vitinha, João Neves, Bruno Fernandes; Bernardo Silva, Cristiano Ronaldo, Pedro Neto.
