TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tech giant Apple has announced significant price hikes for its hardware product line, from Mac computers to iPads. This move came amidst a global chip supply crisis triggered by the massive construction of AI-based servers and data centers.
In addition to Mac and iPad products, Apple also announced that the price increases will also affect the Apple TV, HomePod, and Vision Pro lines.
The price surge ranges from $30 or around Rp536,000 to a high of $1,300 or around Rp23 million for the Mac Studio.
Despite this, Apple did not include a similar policy for the iPhone, Apple Watch, and AirPods. At least for now, there have been no changes in the prices of these three product lines.
"We have shielded our customers from these increases so far, but we have now reached a point where we need to begin raising prices on a number of products, including today's increases for iPad and Mac," Apple said in a statement quoted by MacRumors on Thursday, June 25, 2026.
Apple is aware that the price increase for several of its products is not pleasant news for its consumers. The consumer electronics industry is facing unprecedented challenges. "The rapid expansion of AI data centers has created an extraordinary surge in demand for memory and storage," said Apple management.
As is known, Apple is not the only technology company to raise prices in response to the shortage of memory chips. Other companies include Microsoft, Samsung, Lenovo, HP, Dell, and many more. Memory chip supplier Micron predicts that this shortage will persist until 2027, so higher prices could become commonplace for a year and a half or more in the future.
