TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The 69th edition of the Ballon d’Or will be announced at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, France, on Monday, September 22, 2025, at 08:00 PM local time (Tuesday, September 23, 01:00 AM WIB).
Football fans worldwide can follow the prestigious award ceremony via a live broadcast on L’Équipe’s official YouTube channel.
First presented by France Football in 1956, the Ballon d’Or has become one of the most coveted honors in world football, recognizing the talent and achievements of both male and female players. Over the decades, it has stood as the ultimate individual accolade in the sport.
In addition to the main awards for the best men’s and women’s players, the 2025 edition will also feature trophies for young players, goalkeepers, coaches, top scorers, and the best club of the year.
Voting and Selection Process
The evaluation period for the men’s category ran from August 1, 2024, to July 13, 2025, concluding with the final of the 2025 Club World Cup. For the women’s category, it extended until August 2, 2025, the date of the Copa América Femenina final.
Winners are chosen through a voting system involving three groups: national team coaches, captains, and journalists. Eligible journalists must come from the top 100 FIFA countries for the men’s award and the top 50 for the women’s.
PSG Dominates the Nominee List
On August 7, 2025, France Football revealed the 30 nominees for the men’s Ballon d’Or. Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), fresh off a historic treble by winning Ligue 1, the French Cup, and the Champions League while also finishing runners-up at the Club World Cup, leads the pack with nine representatives.
Barcelona follows with four players, while Real Madrid has three. Among the frontrunners are PSG’s Ousmane Dembélé, Barcelona’s teenage prodigy Lamine Yamal, and Real Madrid’s new talisman Kylian Mbappé.
Spanish outlet Marca even lists Dembélé and Yamal as this year’s leading favorites.
