TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) reported that one neighborhood unit (RT) in Pluit, Penjaringan Subdistrict, North Jakarta, remained submerged by coastal flooding on Tuesday morning, April 29.

An RT, short for Rukun Tetangga, is the smallest administrative neighborhood unit in Indonesia, typically consisting of several dozen households.

"One RT and one road segment are still affected by coastal flooding this morning," Mohamad Yohan, head of BPBD Jakarta's Data and Information Center, said on Tuesday as quoted by Antara.

Floodwaters in residential areas reached up to 25 centimeters, Yohan said. Meanwhile, Jalan Pluit Karang Ayu Barat remained flooded with water up to 15 centimeters deep.

Flooding on RE Martadinata Road, in front of Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) in Papanggo, Tanjung Priok, had receded by Tuesday morning.

The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) earlier issued a coastal flooding alert for April 27 to May 4, citing the super new moon phenomenon, when the new moon is at its closest point to Earth. The event is expected to raise tidal levels and cause coastal flooding along Jakarta’s northern coastline.
