TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Newly appointed Finance Minister Suahasil Nazara has pledged to safeguard Indonesia’s state finances and ensure the State Budget (APBN) continues to support economic growth and stability.
Suahasil said President Prabowo Subianto had tasked him with continuing to manage the country’s finances through the remainder of the 2024-2029 administration. He made the remarks at a press conference at the Finance Ministry’s office in Jakarta on Monday, September 14, 2026.
“My task is to safeguard state finances and ensure that our state finances continue to support a State Budget that promotes growth, stabilizes the economy, and provides maximum benefits to Indonesian society as a whole,” Suahasil said.
He said the State Budget affects the economy through several channels, including household consumption, investment, government spending, and exports.
Suahasil said maintaining sound state finances would allow the government to maximize the benefits of the State Budget for the public while supporting economic activity.
He also called on Finance Ministry officials to continue carrying out their respective responsibilities and maintain the institution’s credibility.
“Let us continue our respective work and build a Finance Ministry that is credible, trusted, and a source of pride for the Indonesian people,” he said.
Suahasil began leading the Finance Ministry on Monday afternoon, taking over from Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa. President Prabowo inaugurated him as finance minister at the State Palace in Jakarta earlier that day.
His appointment was formalized through Presidential Decree No. 97P/2026 on the dismissal and appointment of the Finance Minister for the remainder of the 2024-2029 term, issued by Prabowo on September 14.
Suahasil is the third finance minister under Prabowo, following Sri Mulyani Indrawati and Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa. Purbaya was appointed on September 8, 2025, replacing Sri Mulyani.
Before becoming finance minister, Suahasil served as deputy finance minister from October 25, 2019. He was first appointed to the position under President Joko Widodo’s administration and was reappointed under Prabowo’s administration in October 2024.
