TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Hajj and Umrah Mochamad Irfan Yusuf has confirmed that flight routes for Indonesian Hajj pilgrims are currently following standard paths following a ceasefire between the United States and Iran in the Middle East.
"If there is a ceasefire, Alhamdulillah. If the war ends, that is even better. This means there are no changes in the route for us," Irfan said when met at the DPR complex on Wednesday, April 8, 2026.
He emphasized that there have been no changes to the flight schemes used by airlines to transport Indonesian pilgrims to Saudi Arabia. "It is still normal at the moment," he noted.
This statement was made in response to growing concerns over potential disruptions to aviation paths caused by escalating Middle Eastern tensions, particularly the conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. The air corridor to Saudi Arabia faced potential impact if heightened hostilities had forced airlines to implement diversions.
Earlier, as reported by Al Jazeera, U.S. President Donald Trump agreed to postpone a planned bombing of Iran for two weeks, just hours before the strike deadline on Tuesday night, April 7, 2026. The decision was announced via the Truth Social platform.
On his social media account, Trump mentioned that the decision followed communications with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief of Staff Asim Munir. He also stipulated that Iran must reopen the Strait of Hormuz as a condition for the delay.
"Based on conversations with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir, of Pakistan, and wherein they requested that I hold off the destructive force being sent tonight to Iran, and subject to the Islamic Republic of Iran agreeing to the COMPLETE, IMMEDIATE, and SAFE OPENING of the Strait of Hormuz, I agree to suspend the bombing and attack of Iran for a period of two weeks," Trump stated.
Shortly after the announcement, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed the preliminary agreement. "If attacks against Iran are halted, our Powerful Armed Forces will cease their defensive operations," he said.
According to the official schedule, the first wave of Indonesian Hajj pilgrims is set to depart on April 22, 2026. This will be followed by a second wave beginning on May 7, 2026. The total quota for Indonesian pilgrims this year stands at 221,000 people, comprising 203,320 regular pilgrims and 17,680 special Hajj pilgrims.
Irfan stated that the departure of all Indonesian pilgrims to Saudi Arabia is targeted for completion by May 21, 2026.
