TEMPO.COJakarta - The Directorate General of Immigration is processing the deportation of 27 Chinese nationals apprehended by the Bekasi Regency Police for operating a transnational scamming syndicate out of a luxury rental house. The ring targeted victims in China from a location in Lampung, Indonesia.

Anggi Wicaksono, Head of the Bekasi Immigration Office, explained that the perpetrators defrauded Chinese citizens in their home country.

"They called Chinese citizens pretending to be Chinese police officers," Anggi stated during a press conference at the Immigration Directorate General in South Jakarta on Tuesday, November 18, 2025.

According to Immigration authorities, the perpetrators utilized a sophisticated setup, installing a backdrop resembling a Chinese police office and wearing uniforms while executing specific roles within the team. "At the location, there was a luxurious house that they rented, with backdrops that looked like a Chinese police office," Anggi confirmed.

The scam roles included initiating calls to victims, followed by other members applying pressure on the victims to transfer money.

As the Bekasi Regency Police found no Indonesian victims, the case was formally handed over to Immigration. Immigration has detained the 27 individuals and initiated coordination with Chinese authorities. All perpetrators will be deported and subsequently face legal action by the Chinese police.

"Because the victims are in China, Immigration is coordinating with the Chinese Embassy for further action," Anggi said.

Physical evidence, including mobile phones, computers, the police office backdrops, and uniforms, is being coordinated with Chinese authorities for investigative purposes. "We will later convey this to the relevant authorities for investigation in China," he added.

Agus Waluyo, Director of Immigration Intelligence, confirmed that the Directorate General will strengthen intelligence exchange with countries of origin to preclude similar transnational crimes. "The exchange of intelligence information allows us to prevent such crimes from the beginning," he noted.
