Trump Says War in Iran Could Last 'Four Weeks or Less'

5 hours ago 7

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - US President Donald Trump said on Sunday, March 1, that the joint military campaign with Israel against Iran could last about a month. The war on Iran has exacerbated tensions in the region and plunged the global markets into uncertainty.

As reported by the Daily Mail, Trump said the strikes have been calculated from the beginning. "It's always been a four-week process. We figured it will be four weeks or so. It's always been about a four-week process so—as strong as it is, it's a big country, it'll take four weeks—or less," he said.

Trump said the operation is going according to plan. "I think it's going as per planned. You know, other that we took out their entire leadership—far, far more than what we thought," he said, reiterating the claim that 48 Iranian leaders have been removed and the operation is proceeding faster than scheduled.

According to CNA report, a day after the killing of Iran's Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, which triggered deeper uncertainty in the region and the global economy, the United States and Israel continued their military strikes.

Washington had previously announced the destruction of Iran's Revolutionary Guard headquarters, while Israel stated that the joint operation dealt a "severe blow" to Tehran's command and control system.

Initial US Strikes

According to the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), in the first 24 hours since the start of the attack on Saturday, American forces targeted Iran's command center, ballistic missile locations, naval ships, and air defense systems.

The operation involved stealth bombers, fighter jets, nuclear-powered aircraft carriers, and missile-armed destroyers. Iran retaliated with drone and missile attacks targeting Gulf countries.

Saudi Arabia's Involvement

Trump also mentioned the possibility of Saudi Arabia's involvement. "They're fighting, they are fighting too," he said.

According to a report from Anadolu, the statement came after a CNN reporter in a then-deleted video claimed that Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman had authorized the kingdom to strike back against Iran if necessary, with allegations that Iran targeted Saudi, despite strikes against it not using Saudi airspace.

On the other hand, Trump said he remains open to talks with Tehran, although he has not confirmed the timing of the meeting. "I don't know," Trump said, according to the report. "They want to talk, but I said you should have talked last week, not this week."
